Existing Home Consultants participating in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program are independent business people, trained and accredited in Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) and are Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst Certified. Consultants perform a full assessment of your home that includes performance testing your ventilation and mechanical systems, building tightness, and insulation levels. They provide a detailed, written report outlining suggested changes to improve the energy efficiency of your home to help you determine your next steps. After the recommended work is complete, the consultant will return and provide independent verification that the work was done correctly so you can start saving energy and money. They will also help you apply for any applicable Cash-Back Rewards.

An Existing Home Performance Contractor performs a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR energy assessment of your home that includes performance testing your ventilation and mechanical systems, building tightness, and insulation levels. They are also qualified to do all or some of the necessary work that you would want done, but do not provide a detailed, written report or have their work verified by an independent consultant. We have trained them in our installation practices and standards to provide you with the best possible service. Performance Contractors also hold Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst and Envelope Professional Certifications.

Find a heating/cooling contractor near you that partners with Focus on Energy.

After a partnering consultant performs a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® assessment and suggests changes to improve your home’s comfort and energy efficiency, he or she will suggest trade ally partners that perform work to our standards.  They receive classroom and in-field training based on building science principles and diagnostic testing to assure that installations meet Program and industry standards.  Installing Trade Ally partners work with you and your consultant to make sure your home gets the work done that you need.

Modular Home Manufacturers build homes to the same standards and codes as site-built homes in a fraction of the time. Modular homes are built in a factory setting under controlled environmental conditions reducing exposure to weather and material waste.  Participating Modular Home Manufacturers build to the same Focus on Energy New Homes standards as “site built” New Homes Builder Partners.

A participating Builder partners with a third-party Building Performance Consultant throughout planning and construction to review building plans, verify component specifications, test, and document the home’s performance. This ensures your new home complies with the standards set by the Focus on Energy New Homes Program.

New Home Consultants participating in the Focus on Energy New Homes Program are independent business professionals trained and accredited in Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET®), and Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certified. Through the entire construction process, the Consultant works with a Builder partner to deliver a new home that is Focus on Energy New Homes certified.

Referring Trade Allies will provide you with an overview of the program and connect you with a partnering consultant to perform a full Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® assessment of your home. While these types of partners may not perform energy retrofit work on your home, they understand and promote the building science principles of the program and often serve as a resource for you.
